Skunk cabbage is found in wooded wetlands, or swamps, where the muddy substrate is permanently wet. They do not grow in flooded situations, but the ground must not dry out over summer. Because skunk cabbage likes muddy areas which are fragile underfoot, you are strongly encouraged to tread carefully as you view the plants.
