Garden Spider
(Araneus diadematus)

Description: Also called the "cross spider" because of the pattern on the abdomen. Usually sits at centre of web waiting for prey. Webs are dismantled and new webs set up in fresh locations regularly.

Habitat: Woodland edge, gardens, fields.

Length: 13-19 mm

Adults: June - October



Three-spotted Jumping Spider
(Phidippus audax)

Description:

Description: Excellent hunters thanks to a combination of great eyesight and spectacular leaping ability. A pair of prominent eyes in the centre of the head. Will enter houses to hunt flies at windows.

Habitat: Woods, houses.

Length: 15 mm

Adults: June - October



Zebra spider
(Salticus scenicus)

Description: Leaps onto prey then attaches a silk line to secure it. Enters houses where it can be seen on walls.

Habitat: Gardens.

Length: 15 mm

Adults: June - October



Black-footed Spider
(Cheiracanthium mildei)

Description:

Description: Introduced from Europe, and now common and often seen in houses.

Habitat: Gardens, houses.

Length: 10 mm

Adults: June - October
